LIVING THE SALT LIFE

The Lapis & Oak Salt Lounge steps it up even a bit further. We’ve created an active salt room that is inviting, warm and nearly sterile. Offering therapies while always prioritizing cleanliness and health is essential to us and is how all of our seasoned staff prefer to operate. This is why we use pharmaceutical-grade salt, rather than the more common pink Himalayan salt usually found in other salt caves. Our halogenerator creates and circulates dry salt aerosol throughout the Salt Lounge, enabling micronized salt particles to travel throughout the room and permeate your air passages and skin.

A History of Health Benefits

Did you know that halotherapy isn’t experimental or even new? As long as 2000 years ago, Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine himself, was prescribing salt inhalation for respiratory ailments. In fact, “halo” comes from the Greek word for salt. From China to Egypt, civilizations have embraced salt therapy to improve health and well-being. You may even recall novels in which characters in poor physical health are dispatched to the seaside to recuperate. Several chapters later, they return to their normal lives refreshed and healthy. How did this happen? The salt in the air!

Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland

Modern halotherapy started taking shape in 1843, when Dr. Felix Boczkowski opened a resort offering salt baths at the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland. He had discovered that men working in salt mines weren’t developing the respiratory problems other miners did. In fact, their skin and their overall health appeared even better than expected. During World War II, people taking refuge in salt mines also experienced clear respiratory improvements. Despite stressful conditions, the benefits of breathing salt-infused air were still obvious.

Escape, Heal and Refresh

With no pharmaceuticals or special equipment in sight, halotherapy is a simple, natural and time-tested approach to health improvement that anyone can experience. What other therapy has zero side effects, other than feeling slightly thirsty at the end of your session? You’ll find yourself wanting to return as soon as possible, which is actually what we recommend! Repeated sessions facilitate deeper, long-term improvements to your health, improving circulation and breathing, normalizing your skin’s pH balance and stimulating tissue regeneration.
